Day 1: City tour and transfer to Musanze
Begin your exploration with a historical perspective by visiting key sites from Rwanda’s colonial, post-independence, genocide, and post-genocide periods. These include Kigali Solaire, Stade Régional, the Kigali Genocide Memorial—where over 259,000 victims are buried in mass graves—the Dr. Richard Kandt Museum, which commemorates the first German explorer in Kigali, and the Belgian Camp, where ten Belgian UN peacekeepers were killed while protecting the moderate prime minister before the genocide began.
After lunch, continue to Bugesera to visit the Reconciliation Village, a powerful symbol of healing where genocide survivors live alongside those who once committed atrocities against their families. Day 2: Gorillas Tracking
After breakfast, we head to the park to begin a once-in-a-lifetime adventure—tracking mountain gorillas. Once park formalities are complete, we set off in search of these incredible primates. Upon locating them, you’ll have the rare opportunity to observe them for one unforgettable hour. This is truly one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences on Earth, allowing you to come face-to-face with these majestic creatures. Often, you’ll find yourselves silently observing each other, unsure who will break the stillness first.
Trekking through the lush alpine forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains makes the experience even more magical. We’ll remain in the area until lunchtime. Keep in mind that some gorilla families are harder to find, and the trek can take the entire day, especially in muddy or wet conditions. After the trek, we’ll proceed back to Kigali.
