This 3-day wildlife safari to Murchison Falls National Park will take you to the northwestern region of Uganda, where you’ll have the opportunity to search for the remaining four members of the Big Five during your game drive and boat cruise on the Nile River. Throughout your adventure, you may even have the chance to spot all five Big Five mammals. Murchison Falls National Park is home to over 76 mammal species and approximately 451 bird species. The park features a diverse landscape, including woodlands, riverine forests, and savannah grasslands. It is part of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area, which also includes the Bugungu Wildlife Reserve and Karuma.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup from Kampala and Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

In the early morning, you will be warmly greeted by our company representative and your English-speaking safari guide in Kampala. After a brief meeting and an overview of your 3-day safari to Murchison Falls National Park, your luggage will be loaded into the vehicle, and you’ll begin your journey to the park, located about 320 km northwest of Kampala. Along the way, you’ll stop at Kabalega Diner for lunch. Afterward, continue your drive towards Murchison Falls National Park, crossing the River Nile before heading to your lodge for check-in. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the exciting activities the next day. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2: Murchison Falls National Park – Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise along the Murchison Falls – Evening at Leisure

Wake up early for a cup of coffee, grab your packed breakfast, and head to the northern sector of the park, known for its excellent game drive safaris. During the game drive, your safari guide will assist in spotting a variety of wildlife, including cape buffalo, elephants, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, Rothschild giraffes, oribis, lions, and common warthogs. On a lucky day, you might even catch a glimpse of a leopard. Take a short break to enjoy your full breakfast before continuing your game drive to explore more of the park and spot additional wildlife.

In the early afternoon, return to your lodge to relax and have lunch before heading to the park for your afternoon boat cruise on the Nile, starting at 2:00 pm. The cruise will take you upstream along the calm Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, stopping just a few meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron” to offer an incredible view of the falls and witness how the Nile plunges into the pool below. During the boat safari, you’ll pass through areas teeming with water mammals like hippos and Nile crocodiles, as well as various bird species, such as the Egyptian goose, goliath heron, kingfisher, pelican, bee-eater, hornbill, and cormorant. You may also spot land mammals coming to drink or swim. After the boat cruise, return to your lodge to relax, enjoy dinner, and spend the night.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park – Second Morning Game Drive – Visit Murchison Falls – Drive Back to Kampala City or Entebbe International Airport

Wake up early (around 6:00 am) to enjoy a delicious breakfast, with all your luggage already packed in the vehicle. After checking out of your lodge, drive to the park for another morning game drive. This will give you the chance to spot wildlife you may have missed during previous drives, including big predators that are usually most active during the early hours of the day. The longer you spend in the wilderness, the more you can appreciate its beauty.

After the game drive, visit Murchison Falls for a stunning view of the falls and the captivating sound of the water as it plunges into the pool below. At Murchison Falls, you’ll witness how the entire Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge just 7 meters wide, dropping 43 meters into a pool, creating a thunderous and beautiful sound.

Later, begin your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for your return flight. This marks the end of your 3-day wildlife safari to Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda.
