Overview:
On your safari, you’ll pass through Kigali city route to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. From there, you’ll embark on an unforgettable border-crossing journey to southwestern Uganda, where you’ll have another incredible opportunity to encounter mountain gorillas in the stunning Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 1: Departure from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your designated location or Kigali Airport and take you on a drive through Kigali city to visit the Genocide Memorial. Afterward, you’ll be transferred to Uganda via the Katuna border, heading toward Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your accommodation, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and spend the night.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer back to accommodation
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Start your day with an early breakfast, then head to the briefing point for the highlight of your adventure—gorilla trekking. The trek can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla group you’ll be visiting. Accompanied by Uganda Wildlife Authority guide and trackers, you’ll navigate through the rainforest and bamboo-covered slopes in search of a mountain gorilla family. While the walk can be challenging and sometimes long, any discomfort will fade away the moment you catch sight of the awe-inspiring silverback. Due to the nature of the trek, you’ll be provided with a packed lunch. Porters will assist by carrying your packed lunch and any small personal bags you may have.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Begin your day with an early breakfast, then head to the briefing point for the highlight of your journey—gorilla trekking. The trek typically lasts between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you’re assigned to visit. Guided by an experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger and trackers, you’ll hike through lush rainforest and bamboo-covered slopes in search of these incredible primates. The trek can be physically demanding at times, but the moment you spot a majestic silverback, all the effort will feel more than worthwhile. A packed lunch will be provided due to the nature of the activity.
After the trek, you’ll travel through the scenic terraced hills toward Lake Bunyonyi.
Here, you can unwind with a peaceful canoe ride, or choose from optional activities such as swimming in the lake (which is safe and free of bilharzia), hiking along island trails, or taking a community walk to meet locals and enjoy the melodies of both resident and migratory birds. In the evening, you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Bunyonyi Rock Resort.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin your journey back across the border into Rwanda. You’ll continue to Kigali, carrying with you unforgettable memories of your encounter with the rare and majestic mountain gorillas. Enjoy a lunch stop along the way, then arrive in Kigali later in the evening, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport as you bid farewell to the “Pearl of Africa.”
